Scholastic Bowl State Champs Share Their Skills

Our team of champions will host a Middle School tournament this fall on November 9th.  The team and Coach Altena are excited to share their expertise.  Here's a recap of their winning season:

The Chicago Christian High School Varsity Scholastic Bowl team won its first ever IHSA 1A State Championship Saturday, March 16 in Peoria. Easily gaining entrance to the championship match–defeating Winnebago, Riverdale and Gibault Catholic–the Knights tangled with the tough, patient team from Williamsville, seeking to defend its title in front of a large group of supporters. Tied after 12 questions at 130, the Knights pressed ahead to a 250-180 lead by question 19. A late 80 point surge by Williamsville over the next three questions earned them a 10 point advantage with two questions remaining. The Knights retook the lead on a penultimate buzz by team Captain, Ben Fry. A very rare incorrect buzz for both teams on the last question handed the Knights a slim, but well-deserved victory. For the Knights this championship was a fitting completion to a winning season. The team’s 60-12 record was the strongest finish in CCHS Scholastic Bowl history and along the way the team placed 2nd in 2A at the Masonic State Tournament in February and won the Metro Suburban Conference title in December.  Way to go Knights!

Stay tuned for more details about the upcoming tournament.
