Welcome to Southwest Chicago Christian School - Oak Lawn Campus

"A Christ-centered learning community intent on restoring God's world."

Pettinga, Nathan

Your child is not a number.

The SCCS - Oak Lawn campus offers preschool through 8th-grade students a safe, caring learning community where every student is known and valued. It is our desire to challenge our students to be excellent in all they do, glorifying their Creator - developing a child's head, heart and hands.

We are excited to share with you our engaging learning environment that will stimulate your child's mind and encourage their soul. We are a diverse campus, drawing from a wide area which includes the city of Chicago and its suburbs to the south and west.

Walk through our hallways, enter our classrooms, and experience the nurturing caring teachers who skillfully link faith and learning. If you would like to learn more about the rigorous learning environment here at SCCS - Oak Lawn, consider visiting with us at one of the many Open House opportunities listed on the button below or by calling our office at 708.636.8550 or Wilma in the admissions office at 708.388.7656.

Our curriculum is biblically based on the teachings of the infallible Word of God as interpreted in the Standards of the Reformed faith and seeks to explore every avenue of learning so students may be able to discharge His responsibilities faithfully.

The Preschool and Kindergarten programs have been established as a service to the families and children of the community. Children are welcomed as individuals created in the image of God. Focus is on the whole child: their social, emotional, physical, cognitive, creative and spiritual growth. Preschool and Kindergarten curriculum includes Bible, literacy development, math, science, social studies, physical education, music, art, Spanish and computer (Kindergarten only).

The elementary school and middle school offers a setting in which the students can explore different interests through a variety of exposures and experiences with a focus on preparing students for future studies. The elementary school curriculum includes Bible, art, language arts, reading, writing, spelling, grammar, computer, instrumental instruction band (5th grade), math, music, physical education, science, social studies, Spanish, and Project Lead the Way STEM units in science. The middle school curriculum includes Bible, art, band, choir, computer applications, Spanish, language arts, math, social studies, physical education, and PLTW STEM units in science.

The Southwest Chicago Christian School Association can be summarized by the school logo that has the basic shape of three triangles that overlap which represent the Christian home, the Christian church, and the Christian school, and show that Christ is at the heart of each institution. Furthermore, the shape formed by the overlapping triangles typifies the unity and interdependent of the home, church, and school in the education of our students.

In partnership with home and church, we as a school strive to develop the faith of our students by helping them understand who they are in Christ and where they fit in God’s story. We provide programs and curriculum that develops the mind of each child to develop a heart for God and to serve others effectively. Students participate in chapel, service learning projects, learn Christ-centered character traits, and most importantly learn how to be Christ-like servants through the modeling and teaching from our staff.

Much of education is about preparation for future studies. We offer a variety of exposures and experiences that complement our curricular program through our co-curricular programs for students to learn more about their God-given gifts and talents.

Elementary co-curricular programs include:

  • After School Enrichment classes such as sewing, computer coding, Lego robotics, knitting, chess, scrapbooking, and ceramics

As a parent, one of the most important responsibilities I have is to make good choices for my children. I sought an environment in which they would grow to be kind, accepting of other's differences, grateful and most important God-fearing. Someone in my office told me to look into Southwest Christian in Oak Lawn. I looked it up on-line, stopped in for a visit and with every interaction it felt right. Southwest Christian has provided the environment we were looking for. It is a nurturing, diverse, loving environment that is academically strong. The values that we have at home are reinforced in the school. The teachers are the type of role models that my kids admire and I tremendously respect. The children and the staff are accepting and supportive of the differences. It is a kind place that fosters learning!             - Karina, parent
