Classes visit weekly (see the Schedule link to the left) to hear book talks, read alouds, or lessons about how to use the library. They then get to choose books for independent reading, selecting with the help of their teachers and the librarian. We work to guide them to books that are "just right" for their interests and reading skills. As they complete checkout, the students sit at tables for quiet reading or sharing. The older the students, the quieter it gets!
Sometimes students visit the library media center at other times to use the computers, spread their work on the large tables, read and study in small groups, or get assistance from a tutor. The room is open all week.
Pre-school through 5th graders may ordinarily check books out for 5 school days, while 6th-8th graders may for 10. Middle schoolers pay 5 cents a day fines for overdue books. We issue overdue notices to all grades on Fridays. If you ever have a question about a notice, please contact Mrs. Bruinius firstname.lastname@example.org or Mrs. Wassenasar email@example.com and we'll work to resolve things.
